Because the numbers (supposedly) match up the day for a year rule fits. A normal, tunnel-visioned JW probably won't be capable of critically thinking about whether or not the rule has any application outside of its context.

The easiest refutation of Witness Chronology
by CunningMan inwhenever the prophetic chronology of jehovah's witnesses is criticized, it begins with their commitment to 607 b.c.e as beginning of the seventy weeks and the relevant archaeological evidence.
however, it seems to me that there is an easier way to debate the issue.
why not show them that the so-called day-for-a-year-rule is unwarranted.

JWD- Some of the Best Supportive Discussion I've Seen
by flipper init certainly is a diverse board we have here , isn't it ?
we all come from different backgrounds, walks of life, and had different experiences in growing up as children into adolescence.
so it should suffice to say, that we will all have a variety of takes on various issues that come up on the board.

I guess supportive discussion is a good term for a lot of what goes on here. I agree that it's good to be able to be in contact with each other, but am also wary of things being posted as advice that may not be right for the people reading. As always, don't believe everything you read and consult the professionals whenever possible/necessary.

Let's Hear it For Simon -Thanks For This Board - And All it Accomplishes
by flipper ini think it's only appropriate to put out a thread to thank simon for the great job he does in moderating this board, watching over discussions to make sure that the purpose of jwd discussion stays focused .
i believe that he and the mods do a great job in helping this board along in it's journey - and enables us to have the freedom of speech- without having fear of reprisal - as long as the guidelines are met.
so, i for one would like to personally thank you simon - for bringing this board into existence, as it has helped many to be able to vent after leaving the jehovah's witnesses cult, and get support, and for others it has helped them have a great place to discuss many important topics that have a heavy play in many of our lives !

Yes, I'm glad to be able to keep up with the collective insight and thoughts on all things JW, and to be able to ask advice here and there. Thanks to Simon, to the mods and to my fellow members.

Have u found friendships w/ worldy people be hard?
by blkblk13 inso, i'm embarking on slow fade and i think it's time for me to start making friends w/ some non-jdubs so that i'll have a support network once i decide to be completely out and everyone ive ever known abandons me.
ive always gotten along much better w/ wordly people than jdubs so i'll haveno problem securing friends but im concerned about being to keep them.. i want out of the org for various reasons but i must admit i still believe many of the teachings.
i just think the leadership and organization itself is corrupt.

Why are you still bothered about birthdays and stuff?
Loads - absolutely loads - of things have pagan origins. Maybe it's time to stop worrying and to do some new things? -

Well he plays violent games. I can't go too far with the "unsuitable" music just yet. ;)

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I will look those up.
I should clarify that I'd like this music to subtley promote the right messages which might help a youngish unbaptised publisher who lives at home with Mum and Dad use his mind to set himself free. So any very subversive/heavy/dark/"demonic" stuff is obviously out, as is obvious promotion of "loose" morals. I guess you guys know what I'm getting at...
Sublte and thought provoking. -

Do any of you have recommendations of music which might be good for a born-in to hear? Something which promotes open-mindedness or similar, and is not too blunt so as to be viewed as completely anti.
He particularly likes rock and electronic, but has a fairly varied taste. Thanks. -

Today at the Watchtower..........
by oneairhead intoday at the watchtower on young ones, i wrote a note in the margin during the study.
it was on the paragraph that said something to the affect of, how sad it would be for young ones to loose out so close to the end.
" i wrote "the carrot.

Sounds positive, oneairhead. Well done.
